Resumo:

Euetheola humilis (Burmeister, 1847) is regarded as a major pest of various cultivated crops in Brazilian agricultural regions. The antennal sensory system of adult E. humilis mediates the detection of food sources, mate location, and nesting site selection; however, detailed information on this system is lacking. Male and female adult antennae were dissected, and the lamellae separated into proximal, median, and distal portions; subsequently, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images were obtained. Trichoid, chaetic, placoid sensilla (types I, II, and III), coeloconic sensilla (types I and II), and ampullacea (pore) sensilla were identified. In females, 3,129 sensilla were counted: 3,014 (96.32%) placoid and 115 (3.68%) coeloconic. In males, 3,298 sensilla were counted: 3,169 (96.09%) placoid and 129 (3.91%) coeloconic. Sensilla functions are presented and discussed, providing insight into their diverse roles in adult E. humilis.
